Memorabilla Room - 04 568 6270

Udy Street, Petone

Petone Rugby Football Club is legendary – having won the Wellington Club Championship more than 38 times and produced 30 All Blacks in its 130-year history. So it’s not surprising that the club’s memorabilia display is among the best of any rugby club in New Zealand.

PRFC’s home is at North Park, but it plays its home games on Petone Recreation Ground at the top of Buick Street, just a quick walk from Jackson Street. The first ever game of rugby played in the North Island was played in Petone.

The Memorabilia Room in the club rooms has galleries of themed photographs, trophies, caps, medals, citations and two touch-screen resources where you can watch interviews of club greats and other characters. There is even a (replica) Victoria Cross awarded to Major William James Hardham, the first New Zealand-born man to win the V.C.

Share the local hospitality with a drink or two at the club bar. You never know, you may end up yarning with an All Black.

The Memorabilia Room is open most days for viewing. Ring 04 568 6270 to check.
